Job Title:  Rehabilitation Teacher (Combined Vision & Hearing Loss)

 

Accountable To:  Director of Cross Disability and Technology

 

Summary of Responsibilities: The planning, development and implementation of skills necessary to enable blind and visually impaired individuals to function independently in their everyday life activities.

 

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

 

A. Performs assessment and evaluation of current rehabilitation skills of client.

            1. Plans and develops individualized instructional objectives based on need, goals and capability of each client.

            2. Develops flexible instructional plan that includes the alteration, exclusion or development of additional instructional sessions to facilitate learning and acquisitions of skill needed to meet the goals of the client.

            3. Provides instruction in the home, work or educational setting that is most relevant to the specific needs of the client.

B. Submits necessary written evaluation, lesson plans and professional observations related to progress in the achievement of instructional plan.

            1. Documents all necessary reports and client data necessary to SBVI funding requirements.

            2. Maintains monthly written progress reports including comments on skills demonstrated and/or special reports including special difficulties that client is encountering.

            3. Maintains communication with SBVI counselor or other referral source in order to best facilitate the needs of an individual client.

C. Provides information and expertise on rehabilitation teaching to various professional and community resources.

            1. Participates in agency/client staffing and conferences as appropriate.

            2. Engages in conferences, workshops, seminars and community education presentations as requested.

            3. Provides consultation and education to spouses and family members of the client regarding problems of adjustment to blindness and necessary skills they can develop to assist the client.

D. Involvement in projects as assigned by the director.

 

Qualifications:

 

Bachelors or Master's Degree in Rehabilitation Teaching, Special Education or a related field from an accredited College or University. Additionally position requires certification from the Academy of Certification for Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP) on a provisional or permanent Rehabilitation Teaching Certification. Preferred:  proficient in ASL and possess or meet requirements for a valid Arizona Interpreter license (A.R.S. 36-1973 and 1972), American Sign Language Proficiency (SCPI) rating of Intermediate or above, or American Sign Language Teacher’s Certification (ASLTA) Qualified or Professional Level.

Job Title: Orientation & Mobility Specialist for Deafblind (Combined Vision & Hearing Loss)

Accountable to: Director of Cross Disability and Technology

Summary of Responsibilities: Involved in the planning, assessment, development and implementation of skills necessary to enable individuals who are primarily DeafBlind or have Combined Vision and Hearing Loss to function independently in their orientation and mobility needs. Be a part of a team with the goal the individuals we serve achieve independence.

Duties & Responsibilities:

A. Performs assessment and evaluation of current rehabilitation skills of client.

            A. Performs assessment, instruction, and evaluation of travel skills and develops instructional plan that will meet the needs of client.

            B. Performs the necessary compensatory and communication techniques necessary to teach individuals who have Combined Vision and Hearing Loss or who are deaf and blind.

                  1. Work with a team to achieve independence in all aspect of daily living.

                  2. Educate and assist our clients in accessing community resources.

            C. Submits necessary written evaluation, lesson plans, and professional observations related to progress and achievement of instructional plan.

                  1. Participate in staffing with State Vocational Rehabilitation Services.

            D. Provides information and expertise on orientation and mobility and/or the special needs of individuals with Combined Vision and Hearing Loss.

                  1. Participates in seminars, conferences and presentations to consumer groups.

                  2. Engages in seminars, conferences, workshops and community educational presentations to professional and general public interest.

                  3. Provides consultation and education to spouses and family members of clients related to advocacy and community resources available to them.

            E.Other duties as assigned by supervisor, or the President and CEO.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and Education/Special Education with specialization with a ACVRP Certification in Orientation & Mobility. Preferred:  be proficient in ASL and possess or meet requirements for a valid Arizona Interpreter license (A.R.S. 36-1973 and 1972), American Sign Language Proficiency (SCPI) rating of Intermediate or above, or American Sign Language Teacher’s Certification (ASLTA) Qualified or Professional Level.
